Sample Mission Statement

Here's a sample mission statement to help inspire you to create your own. Some of this example comes from my own personal mission statement, and it might be helpful to you to follow it.

Many of us have writer's block, especially when writing about subjects that we are close to, like ourselves. Often, it is helpful to start with an example of a finished work and use that format to complete your writing.

In fact, that is exactly what I did! I actually took the formatting for this sample mission statement from another. You can view the example of Dr. Randall Hansen from which this one was taken here... Dr. Randall Hansen's mission statement example The text below is in the same format as Dr. Hansen's (simply because I liked it), and some of it contains actual pieces of my own personal mission statement.

Sample mission statement...

My one-sentence mission/vision statement: To live a fun life in accordance with my beliefs and values at any given time, and use my talents to add value to my environment in ways that I choose.

My professional philosophy statement: To add value to each transaction through prudent exercise of the skills of communication, interpretation, and understanding.

My detailed personal mission:

Words that describe me: caring, tolerant, practical, supportive, spiritual, proactive, humorous yet sincere, creative, persistent, independent, nurturing, opinionated yet nonjudgmental, strong willed yet open-minded.

I am a good friend. Being my friend means that you can call on me at any time for assistance, that I do not push my opinions on you, and I allow you to be whomever it is you need to be at any given moment.

I am a spiritual being. I believe in a higher power, and that higher power is the one true being that exists. With that view, whatever myself or others choose to believe at any given moment in time, must be accepted as the best we can do.

I am a communicator. I believe that we give communication great power. With better communication, or the lack of it, or the misunderstanding of it, comes tremendous power to heal and correct, or damage and destroy.

I am a ponderer. I agree with Tony Robbins... asking better questions of myself and others yields better results and more possibilities. Successful people aren't necessarily smarter or more talented, they simply ask better questions.

I am an educator. I enjoy using communication in helping people learn, and exposing people to new, sometimes unconventional ideas and viewpoints.

I am a possibility thinker. I believe that within the confines of universal law, we can be and do whatever we truly desire, and I strive to inspire anyone who is willing to accept that concept.

I am a solution provider. I enjoy helping people by empowering them to learn to solve whatever challenges them, to help them to ask better questions, and inspire them to view the world in terms of solutions.

I am a Web Entrepreneur. I believe my desire to educate through communication extends and is magnified many times through the messages conveyed in the Internet real estate that I own and control.

I am a musician. No matter how much I have tried to ignore it, music is in my "blood." Music of many types moves me and sparks my creativity, and stimulates my positive nature unlike anything else.

I am an advocate. Where appropriate, I believe in aiding others who may not be able to aid themselves with the resources currently available to them.

I am open-minded. I am tolerant of the ideas of others, and approach situations and challenges with an open mind.

I am an innovative thinker. I attempt to approach situations and challenges from a new viewpoint, going beyond the "think outside the box" concept to ask... what box?

I am a comedian. I believe that laughing, especially at yourself, those close to you, and the world around you, is essential. I naturally see humor in most situations, except the most critical of circumstances.

I continuously try to improve my contribution. I attempt to contribute to the world in the best way I know how, by working on myself.

I hope that this sample mission statement inspires you and gives you some ideas. You may use the statement above in any way you like. You can keep the format, dump the format, or modify it as you see fit.

Most importantly, use the sample mission statement that I provide here as an example to complete yours.
