Learn Neuro Linguistic ProgrammingWhat is neuro linguistic programming? Neuro linguistic programming, or NLP, focuses on a study of the structure of how humans think and interpret their world. Since two people can experience a similar event, but react to them in very different ways, the nature of this study is very subjective. NLP might ask the question... why is one person an excellent public speaker, when another can't get up in front of an audience of two? Then there is the follow up question... can person B teach himself to be like person A with respect to public speaking and how? Because of the subjective nature of the human experience, NLP uses what is known as models to effect personal change. In other words, person B models the beliefs, behaviors, strategies, and habits of person A in order to achieve the same result. At its heart, therefore, neuro linguistic programming is a method for effecting change in people's lives through better communication. By learning how a successful person communicates with themself, and then copying or modeling that communication, one can become successful as well. My first introduction to NLP was through the book Unlimited Power by Anthony Robbins. While Mr. Robbins does not use NLP techniques exclusively in his work, this book gives what I would call a good introduction to them. I would have to say that this book opened my eyes to the idea that most people really don't communicate with themselves very well. It should be fairly obvious to all of us that the most successful people in any field are not necessarily the most intelligent. They are not, by and large, even the most talented. NLP works to effect change at the level of what is sometimes called, emotional intelligence. I believe that emotional intelligence is more important than being what we would normally call smart. While it is true that you can be a genius and be a success, it is obviously not required. There is no shortage of smart people who could be called "failures." There are certainly a large number of smart people who are not all that they would like to be, or all that we would expect of them. By learning how to better communicate with themselves, underachievers can reach their full potential. In theory, any area of one's life can be improved by modeling someone who is successful in that area. Those who learn neuro linguistic programming learn, among other things, to control how they communicate with themselves. This has numerous benefits, and in my opinion, is the greatest benefit of learning NLP techiques. There are several different levels at which you can learn neuro linguistic programming and take training.

So well that even someone with poor training in it can do a lot of damage." -Stever Robbins Simply reading about NLP will give you some knowledge of how it works and how it can be used. As a practical matter, you can utilize NLP techniques and apply them to areas that you choose without fully understanding all of the concepts. If you truly want to fully learn neuro linguistic programming, however, you'll have to go further. You'll have to not only learn the concepts, but put it into practice as well. If you want to get to the point where you can use the techniques on a regular basis to effect immediate and lasting change, you'll have to do more than just read. If you want to learn neuro linguistic programming to the point where you fully understand it, or can teach it, you'll have to immerse yourself in it. You'll have to take advanced training and you'll want to get certified. In any case, you'll want to start out by working with the exercises that go along with the NLP books and training courses. If you like it, you might want to take the next step and attend a seminar or work with a certified coach or trainer one on one. There are a number of ways you can get NLP training, as various training programs are available. To learn neuro linguistic programming is to learn more about yourself and how you perceive the world. This can be an invaluable tool to greater success, greater happiness, and an enriched life experience.
