The Key Success Factor
Which key success factor is the most important of all? While the point could be argued a number of ways, there is one quality that almost every success story in history possesses.
"Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race." -Calvin Coolidge
The above quote is one of the most powerful success quotes ever repeated. It talks about the most important factor in success. While some have had success through luck, and others by inheriting money or talent, the key factor that trumps them all is... persistence.Only persistence kills all enemies. Only quitting will defeat you. Often, one of the biggest mistakes that people make is giving up too soon. In other words, they're not persistent enough. Just look at the often quoted Thomas Edison. Edison "failed" numerous times to create the invention we now know as the light bulb. If he had given up on the 100th or even the 500th try, he would have succumbed to defeat. Instead, he possessed that most important success factor, persistence. Anthony Robbins, who coined the phrase "personal power" tells us that "persistence in taking action" is the key success factor in personal power. In Robbins' book, Notes from a Friend, he talks about Colonel Sanders, of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame. Colonel Sanders didn't start his quest to create the famous chicken franchise until he was 65 years old. He was broke, and decided to make a change. When he went around to restaurants trying to sell his chicken recipe, he was sleeping in his car. His quest for success took him two years. During this time, he was turned down 1,009 times before he heard the word "yes." Now THAT is persistence! Most people would have given up and decided that it wouldn't work. They would have quit too soon. "Massive, consistent action with pure persistence and a sense of flexibility in pursuing your goals will ultimately give you what you want, but you must abandon any sense that there is no solution." -Tony Robbins quotes So, the lesson is, be persistent if you want to be successful!
