You may have first gotten to know Robbins through his award winning infomercials, which his bio claims "have continuously aired on average every 30 minutes, 24 hours a day somewhere in North America, since their initial introduction in April 1989." Or you may have seen him playing himself and hypnotizing Jack Black's character in the movie Shallow Hal. By the time Shallow Hal came around, many people were calling Robbins a fraud or a scam artist.

Many people were up in arms when the Robbins divorce hit the media. It made a lot of sense to question how a personal development guru, who claimed to be able to weather any storm and come out on top, could have a failed marriage. It just didn't seem right that you would spend money to be counseled on your relationships by someone who couldn't keep their marriage together.

But Sage is not the woman he was with when he built his self development empire. This enraged a lot of people and just made them shout "scam" even louder.

He has been accused of using high pressure sales tactics to upsell seminar participants on higher cost programs. Another point of contention has been that Robbins is said to use a sort of "pseudo-psychology" based on NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming). Unlike some other so called experts, such as best selling author Dr. John Gray, Tony does not claim a Ph.D. (John Gray has been accused of getting a paper Ph.D. in order to appear to be an expert.)

Nevertheless, the official Anthony Robbins biography states that Tony "has been sought after by psychologists and psychiatrists for training." In addition, he has been working with Cloe Madanes in order to formalize training tools for therapists.

In any case, his detractors will use the Anthony Robbins biography to pick apart whatever they can. Regardless of what critics think, however, Tony's Personal Power II program helped me immensely. In my opinion, he has great techniques you can use to motivate yourself.

The official Anthony Robbins biography, in a way, shows off some of what got Tony in trouble with critics in the first place. It portrays him as a sort of superman, and he seems too good to be true.
