Anthony Robbins Biography
"The past does not equal the future" Officially, Anthony Robbins biography paints him as a humanitarian, an award winning motivational speaker, an advisor to leaders around the world, and the father of the life coaching industry. In addition, Robbins has been bestowed accolades by individuals and organizations with titles such as "Top 50 Business Intellectuals in the World," and one of the top ten "Outstanding People of the World." He is a best selling author, and a peace negotiator. There is mention near the beginning of the Anthony Robbins biography that he has created the "#1 audio coaching system of all time." In a later paragraph, he is said to be the creator of the "#1 personal and professional development system of all time." What that refers to is Personal Power, with over 35 million audio tapes sold worldwide. I have personally taken Personal Power II and loved it. It was worth many times the investment. You may have first gotten to know Robbins through his award winning infomercials, which his bio claims "have continuously aired on average every 30 minutes, 24 hours a day somewhere in North America, since their initial introduction in April 1989." Or you may have seen him playing himself and hypnotizing Jack Black's character in the movie Shallow Hal. By the time Shallow Hal came around, many people were calling Robbins a fraud or a scam artist.
Tony Robbins DivorceMany people were up in arms when the Robbins divorce hit the media. It made a lot of sense to question how a personal development guru, who claimed to be able to weather any storm and come out on top, could have a failed marriage. It just didn't seem right that you would spend money to be counseled on your relationships by someone who couldn't keep their marriage together. Anthony Robbins biography is done in sections, and the last one talks about his being a family man. The bio states "loving husband to his wife, Sage Robbins." But Sage is not the woman he was with when he built his self development empire. This enraged a lot of people and just made them shout "scam" even louder.
If you think about it, though, can we ask every therapist who counsels patients in anger management to never get angry? Can we ask every psychiatrist who prescribes anti-anxiety medication for his patients to never get anxious? No. There are probably numerous family therapists who've gone through divorce, and that should not prevent them from being able to do their jobs. Idol worship leads to disappointment. As the following quote implies, take what lessons you can learn from someone, but that should be as far as it goes. "Never idealize others. They will never live up to your expectations." -Leo Buscaglia" It follows then, that we can't condemn Robbins for getting divorced, and we can't assume he is a scam because his marriage did not last. He has been accused of using high pressure sales tactics to upsell seminar participants on higher cost programs. This may or may not be the case, but that in and of itself does not mean that Robbins is a fraud. Another point of contention has been that Robbins is said to use a sort of "pseudo-psychology" based on NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming). Unlike some other so called experts, such as best selling author Dr. John Gray, Tony does not claim a Ph.D. (John Gray has been accused of getting a paper Ph.D. in order to appear to be an expert.) Nevertheless, the official Anthony Robbins biography states that Tony "has been sought after by psychologists and psychiatrists for training." In addition, he has been working with Cloe Madanes in order to formalize training tools for therapists. In any case, his detractors will use the Anthony Robbins biography to pick apart whatever they can. Regardless of what critics think, however, Tony's Personal Power II program helped me immensely. In my opinion, he has great techniques you can use to motivate yourself. The official Anthony Robbins
biography,
in a way, shows off some of what got Tony in trouble with critics in the first place. It portrays him as a sort of superman, and he seems too good to be true.
